It's the OCD in me that every post has to fall under some category, a category that is immediately repeated in the label anyway, so really there's no need other then the self reassuring sense that it's in its own category.
Speaking of which, there's a brand new category to this blog "Book Building"
Book Building will look at anything related to actually throwing together the work to be published, offering snippets of text here and there previews, questions, random idea, etc. etc. as long as it's related to the books (can you still call a .pdf release a book?) being worked on.
Very soon, once I run a few things by Sean, I'll throw out a general ToC for the Player's Guide. In fact, right now my focus is on the near co-current releases of both the Player's Guide to the Bluestone Isles and the DM's Guide to the Bluestone Isles.
The most important thing about that sentence above is that it's the first time I'm trying out the name for the Island Clusters as a whole, so what do you think?
Do the Bluestone Isles sound like a place you'd like to run "Basic" level AEC characters?
"Bluestone Isles" - I guess it's okay. What's the inspiration for it? I'm not familiar with any circumstances that would produce blue-colored rock, at least not the same kind of color you can see in red sandstone. /wannabe geology nerd
ReplyDeleteI would like to run low-level characters here, primarily due to the unusually high chance of cratering. I can add that to my list of causes of death.
If you need any help with typeface selection, I know some places you can check. I'm not much of a typography expert (I'm really more of a font nerd), but I'm probably more obsessive over it than you.
I don't think there is any actual blue stone anywhere on the isles, the idea comes from the fact that under the right sunlight filtering through the millions of tiny particles that float high above the larger isles, the mountains, from a distance can have a blue hue to them. The same way our mountains look "purple," as per the song and many paintings. The name is a rough translation of what the lizardmen called it, which, if given a direct translation, would be something like "Our Islands in which the Rock Appears Blue," but the humans thought Bluestone Isles sounded better

ReplyDeleteBAM! It seems that some stones are blue. Some metals will oxidize blue, including copper. Different compounds containing copper (copper sulfate) will, too.
Besides, no one said that we have to have 1 to 1 parity with mineral content between Real Earth and Deminar.
The blue tinge in the distance thing works, too.
Also, I know we've been running with PGtX, but we might want to de-emphasize the PGt part, as
ReplyDeletePLAYERS GUIDE TO BLUESTONE ISLANDS
is kinda wordy.
maybe:
players guide to
THE BLUESTONE ISLANDS
Do we want to go with PGtX for the title? Maybe something that points a little more towards "THIS IS THE FIRST BOOK GUYS!!" Idle thoughts.
@Sean
ReplyDeleteIsles Sean, Isles!
Also, in terms of cover design, I think the logo of The Bluestone Isles will be prominent, with Player's Guide written above it, then the same Bluestone Isles logo for the DM's Guide, with DM's Guide written above it.
So, yeah, the Bluestone Isles is what will pop!
Also, there's no reason not to put something like:
"Player's Book 1 in the Deminar Series" or "The First Book for the Deminar Campaign Setting" along the bottom.
Tons of D&D books had bottom "titles" too
