On: The Map

The current map we've been using (see many a previous post below for details) will not be the version of the map that ends up in both the Player's and DM's guide.

This is for two reasons:
1: I believe a few of the symbols I am using are "User Created," meaning if I were to publish that map on an item I am selling, I would have to track down the artist and get his permission or work out royalties or all other kinds of fun legal stuff.

2: More importantly, it's not a proper Basic inspired map! Indeed the map needs to be the standard B&W hex map using the symbols we all know and love from Basic D&D with triangles for mountains, a set of three humps for hills and a star within a circle for the capital!

Along with fully working out a ToC, I'll begin preparation on a proper old school map.

  1. You can grab the classic B&W icons I did from this site: http://www.inkwellideas.com/roleplaying_tools/hexographer/iconsets.shtml
The B&W set is the bottom set, and it doesn't require Hexographer. The icons are just in a zip file and sized as 250x250 transparent PNGs.
You're welcome to use the free Hexographer to do your map, but the free version only allows for the colored icons. The pro version lets you swap in the other icons sets or change individual icons. I hope that helps!

  2. @Joe: Yes that is helpful, I actually stumbled upon Hexographer after I put up this post and thought it would probably work very well for what I wanted to do.

Also the B&W icons are pretty much perfect, kudos on them.

And really $10 for a year's usage of a pretty slick hex based old-school mapper is a steal, so what's not to love about the Pro version
